Hi. I know we are strongly encouraged to shadow PAs and MDs as part of our application process, but I can’t find anyone who will let me. I work as a CNA in a SNF and there are no PAs here for me to shadow and the docs are never in the office. I don’t know any PAs or MDs personally, so I can’t get referrals that way. I’ve tried calling around but can’t get anyone to call me back. I don’t want this to affect my application. What can I do?

You are not alone. Unless you are working as part of a large health care system or have family or friends who are PAs or MDs, it can be hard to get connected to someone. Shadowing is an important part of the application process because it gives you a deeper understanding of what it means to be a medical provider and allows you to speak to the role of the PA within healthcare. We have a program that will connect you to a PA in your area who is open to shadowing. Email us at info@oregonpa.org and we’ll help you connect.
